The 61 Cygni star system (also kown as Bessel's Star or Piazzi's Flying Star) is a binary star system consisting of a pair of K-type dwarf stars (K5 V / K7 V) that orbit each other in a period of about 659 years at an average separation of 84.0AU.
Description (Specifications)
The orbital eccentricity of the two components of e=0.48 means that the two stars are separated by about 44AU at periastron and 124AU at apastron.
- 61 Cygni A is a typical BY Draconis variable star designated as V1803 Cyg while 61 Cygni B is a flare type variable star named HD 201092 with their magnitudes varying 5.21 V and 6.03 respectively.
- The habitable zone for 61 Cygni A lies at approximately 0.26–0.76 AU. The distance from 61 Cygni A where a Terra-normal world would be located is centered at about ~0.57AU, where a planet's period would be ~188 days.
- The habitable zone for 61 Cygni B, lies at approximately 0.24–0.62. The distance from 61 Cygni B where a Terra-normal world would be located is centered at about ~0.466AU, where a planet's period would be ~146 days.
- The 61 Cygni star system is approximately 3.5pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Corespinward direction from Terra at bearing 082.3o Galactic Longitude and -05.82o South Galactic Latitude.
History & Background (Dossier)
61 Cygni A is the primary star of the world Nusku/Sol (Solomani Rim 1822).
The mainworld of Nusku (SR 1822) (world) orbits the star 61 Cygni A. The companion star, 61 Cygni B, is called Anlagar (Anglic: Anlagar) by the Vilani (Anglic: Vilani), and is visible from the surface of Nusku (SR 1822) (world) even during the daytime. Nusku (SR 1822) (world) was a strategic target for both the Terran forces and the Aasha Ziru Sirka (Anglic: Aasha Ziru Sirka) throughout the Interstellar Wars. It changed hands three times: conquered by the Terrans in the Third Interstellar War, it was recaptured by the Aasha Ziru Sirka (Anglic: Aasha Ziru Sirka) in the Fourth Interstellar War, and recaptured for good by the Confederation in the Fifth Interstellar War.
