Khuur is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- It is a member of the Khuur League in the Sydymic Subsector of Ley Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- Almost the entire population is composed of Sydites.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
Khuur is the homeworld of the Sydites, a minor human race transplanted to the world by the Ancients.
This system is part of (and the namesake of) the Khuur Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Khuur orbits towards the outer edge of its star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Khuur is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Khuur has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
- Temperatures climb to uncomfortably high levels during parts of the local year.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Khuur has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Khuur, named Sopater historically, was subject to a large-scale Imperial attack during their campaign against the Sydymic Empire. Nuclear weapons (mostly but not always tactical in nature) were liberally used during the ground fighting. The modern name "Khuur" is derived from a Sydymic dialect word meaning "victim".
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport[edit]
Khuur has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Khuur has a population of 5,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population consists mostly of Sydites.
World Languages[edit]
World Technology Level[edit]
Khuur possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government[edit]
Khuur has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Military[edit]
No information yet available.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Khuur has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]

Trade Data[edit]

World Culture[edit]
Sydites are stereotyped among their neighbours as strong but inept. The Sydites are quite aware of this, and resent the image and the dismissal of their significant place in the history of Ley Sector. As a race they are tired of being thought a second-rate people.

World Timeline[edit]
- Circa -120,000: Sydites achieve Iron Age technology (TL-1)
- Circa -30,000: A few enclaves have attained TL-2.
- Circa -25,000: A sudden climate change throws the Sydites’ placid society into turmoil. Technological advance begins to accelerate.
- Circa -10,000: The various small states coalesce into a single world state, which systematically colonizes all areas of Sopater.
- 640-672: The Third Imperium, its fleets returning to the region after the Civil War, regain territory the Sydites have claimed in their absence.
- 673: The Sydymic Empire tries to sue for peace, only to lose two more worlds to the Imperium before the Imperials finally accept a temporary cease-fire.
- 674: A massive Imperial fleet arrives in the Sopater system and begins to deploy for a siege. However, the siege is a ruse; as the Sydites settle into a defensive routine, the Imperials launch an all-or-nothing planetary assault. The defenders of Sopater put up a tremendous fight, resulting in the almost total destruction of infrastructure on the planet.
- Sopater is subsequently renamed Khuur -- "victim".
- 675: With news of the fall of the homeworld, the Sydymic Empire unravels. By the end of the year, the Emperor is dead, he and his extended family assassinated by the Sydymic Fleet Admiral Asmocchek. As the acting head of state, Asmocchek negotiates surrender terms with the Imperials.
- Most of the core worlds of the Empire subsequently choose to realign themselves into a trade confederation rather than have anything more to do with the Imperials than necessary.
- 778: The confederation of Sydite core worlds becomes the Khuur League. The League guarantees the sovereignty of the various worlds not already under Imperial occupation, subject to certain limitations on armed forces.
