The EPDF-12 Malcolm class Main Battle Tank is a later industrial era TL-6 Armored Fighting Vehicle.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
EPDF-12 Malcolm class Main Battle Tank, TL-6: The vehicle is very lightly armored with a large and efficient improved internal combustion power plant and transmission are linked to a tracked suspension. They have good speed for this technology level, and feature low ground pressure, so they never get stuck off road in mud, soft earth or sand. They are too heavy to be amphibious. They mount a powerful 17cm cannon in a fully stabilized turret on the chassis deck with a battery of four large, wire guided anti-tank missiles on the exterior of the turret. They function more as a self-propelled gun and a tank destroyer than a true Main Battle Tank. They are reliant on the EPDF-7 Wallus class Combat Engineering Tracks for crossing river obstacles. A single mechanic with access to the right tools and a workshop can service, repair and maintain these vehicles.
The vehicle has a crew of four, the driver/mechanic, a gunner, a loader and the vehicle commander.
Chassis:[edit]
- Height: 2m (+1m turret); Width: 3m; Length: 7m.
- Total usable volume: 54m³ (0.1264m³ waste space)
- Total mass loaded: 55 metric tons
- Hull Material: Hard Steel
- Armor: Chassis and turret front 18, chassis and turret sides 10, chassis and turret rear 5, chassis belly and deck 4.
- Target Size DMs: +2 low, +1 high hits
- Production Cost: Cr477,898.9188
Movement:[edit]
The power to weight ratio 75, and the ground pressure is ~6.32 tons/m2.
- Speed:
- Road, 125kph/104cm; Cross Country, 75kph/62cm.
- Movement Effects on Fire: Move 1/2 or less -4 EFP; Move 1/2 or more -4 FFP, no fire EFP
Weapons:[edit]
Turret Mounted Hyper Velocity, 17cm CPR Gun[edit]
Mounted in the fully stabilized turret (1mx3mx4m) on the chassis deck and equipped with TL–6 direct fire control and the round mass 80kg. There is storage for 40 rounds, enough for 40 fire phases. The weapon has +2 signature when it fires. It can engage 1 target/ fire phase. A full load of HEAP rounds is included with the purchase price.
Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
1km (42) | 2km (37) | 3.5km (32) |
Ammunition[edit]
The Ammunition available includes:
Type | Characteristics | Price |
HE | (24/3/4) | Cr400 |
HEAP | 44 | Cr600 |
KEAP | (42/37/32) | Cr600 |
KEAPER | (40/35/30) | Cr660 |
Turret Mounted Coaxial Medium Machine Gun[edit]
There is storage for 3,200 rounds, enough for 40 fire phases. The weapon has +2 signature when it fires and can engage 8 targets.
Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
400m (3)+4 | 750km (2)+3 | 1,200m (2)+1 |
Pintel Mounted Heavy Machine Gun[edit]
Fitted with a gun shield and mounted over the loader's hatch, the belt-fed weapon has storage for 800 rounds, enough for 20 fire phases. The weapon has +2 signature when it fires and can engage 4 targets.
Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
500m (6)+3 | 1,000km (5)+2 | 1,500m (3)+1 |
Ariete TAC Missile System[edit]
There are four 100kg capacity launch rails mounted on the exterior of the turret. These missiles use a very heavy 24kg 30cm HEAP 53 warhead which can breach starship hull metal. The vehicle carries a wire guidance command package. It takes two crew members to manually reload these missiles if additional rounds are available. These weapons are operator guided and are not subject to ECM jamming. Four missiles are included in the vehicle purchase price.
Type | Range | Price |
Operator Guided with Wire Guided Command Link HEAP 53 | 4km +1DM to hit | Cr259 |
Power / Equipment:[edit]
- Power: a 4.125-megawatt improved internal combustion power plant
- consumes 2,062.5 liters of fuel/hour; fuel capacity 5,327.675 liters, enough for 2.58 hours.
- 200 Power Radio
- Active IR
- Passive IR
- 12 Smoke Dischargers
- Vehicle Tool Kit

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Designed and manufactured at TL–6, these tracked vehicles use the same chassis as the EPDF-11 Gerrard class Tracked Air Defense Vehicles and are license built for the Zouave Light Infantry Regiment at Erenim/Natar (Far Home 0412) B786775-6, along the Distant Fringe. These units were intended to destroy enemy armor, their armor is limited by the need for them to be able to use the bridging equipment. Their limited operation endurance necessitates EPDF-9 Milo class Tracked Fuel Tankers be deployed with them. These serve in the Zouave regimental tank company.
