History & Background (Dossier)

This sector is defined by the long-past Hiver-K'kree War. As the K'kree crusade moved into the region, Hiver influence allowed a general resistance to coalesce from local and immigrant cultures. In the aftermath of the war, with an agreed border and a new desire on the part of the K'kree to have no further dealings with Hivers, the sector settled down into a long, uneasy peace. The cultures here are all at least unofficially Hiver allies, largely by necessity, as without the Hive Federation to balance them, the Two Thousand Worlds would annex the region.

Two native races -- the omnivorous Krotan and the nocturnal, carnivorous Lithkind -- have been able to build extensive and intergated interstellar nations in the "pocket" left between Hiver and K'kree space. The Krotan are on good terms with the Hive Federation; the Lithkind are less trusting, viewing Hivers as more of a necessary evil. A third force in the region is the semi-nomadic Humans of Vilani descent known as the Lishun Suugugki, whose cultural region overlaps with much of Krotan and Lithkind space -- the result of plans to settle here that were interrupted by the K'kree-Hiver war, and put on hold indefinitely as the group took to living comfortably aboard ship.
