The Royal Regiment was formed in -245 as a military unit for immigrants and refugees from other systems.

Today, "The Royals" still exist, and serve as an elite TL11 light infantry unit.

"Royals" earn about 80% of the base pay of Caledonian regulars, and serve minimum eight-year enlistments. However, after an eight year term (provided the subject passes a citizenship and language test) the soldier is rewarded with Caledonian citizenship (and the right to either stay in the Royals or enlist in a regular Caledonian unit).
