There are two criteria for throw-away reference: Length and context.

• The text mentioning the race (or other item) is a sentence or less
• The article around the mention is unrelated to or on another topic.

The classic example of this is Eliyoh, mentioned in the Imperial Encyclopedia (p. 29) in a discussion of the Imperial Sunburst. Tjoneslo (talk) 07:15, 21 October 2018 (EDT)
