Notes (2017)[edit]

Thomas, I would like to change the nobility code here back to bullets.

It's hard for my older eyes to read your paragraphs and I do most of the editing and proofing for the worlds.

Maybe you could duplicate the code, change the name, and make a different copy for the preferences you have?

The old farts that I game with and myself need the easier-to-read format.

I've added the list section to the table, with the corresponding section tags. The section tag for the list section should use the Nobility codes with a "+" (for list format). Can you format the rest of the nobility section to your needs for your old, tired eyes?
I've also updated the Template:Imperial Nobility to show one or the other format. The default is the list format you want. This will cause the the background process to update the articles and may be some time to update all the existing articles.

Thank you, sir.
I think I can do that. Will communicate if I run into any trouble.

Nobility Text Transfer Protocol Written (5 November 2015)[edit]

User: Tjoneslo, I wrote the code to make this happen. Please see Capital (world) for an example of how I implemented this. Because it is code, it will be easy to change when revisions are needed. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 13:08, 5 November 2015 (EST)

  • Did you ever get clarification from CotI?
  • Would you please post a link to that CotI post?
  • Thanks, Thomas! You are always appreciated by me.

Nobility Summaries (25 June 2015)[edit]

User: Tjoneslo, will you please help me write code to make nobility happen:

  • I was thinking of --Guim -- (See code in edit mode)
  • I am thinking of a DPL template like Template:World summary.

I would like to learn from this experience. Please help if you have time. Thanks!

- Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 15:01, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

I would strongly suggest moving the nobility summary table (and code sections) to another page: Imperial Nobility/summary. The reason is if any of the sections, e.g. Deopts (D) overlap with any of the Nobility code e.g.Marquis (D) you will end up with both sections in the text. It's a limitation/feature the DPL/page transclusion extension.
Tjoneslo (talk) 15:10, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

Done. Great suggestion. Thank you.

Next question is, T5SS has their Nobility codes as (for example)"BcCe". Does the template need to parse that in select the highest one? or include all of them? Or are you going to include only the highest one as a parameter?

Hi Thomas AKA Tjoneslo, to be honest, I hadn't thought that far ahead yet. I'm still a beginner at much of this and trying very diligently to learn from you without disrupting anything you've done. You know, being courteous? LOL ...so, what do you suggest? Thanks for your help.
- Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 15:42, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

If you look at what I have now, it has all codes (...what you wrote as "include all of them"), down to the detail.
- Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 15:42, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

Two things.
The text in each section will be included in the World Summary template output. So we need to figure out how the lead paragraph of the Trade classification and the list it includes will work with the lead paragraph of the Nobility and the list it generates. Try putting a few together and see what you think it should look like.
Keep in mind the template can do paragraph followed by the list, then another paragraph followed by a list. But it can not do two paragraphs (or one from two sources) followed by a merged list. Once we figure that out, the template updates are easy.

Let's not do it as part of the world summary then. Let's do it as something new... Maybe a nobility summary? Or something like that? I think it would be much easier that way. We won't have to worry about template overload or limits.

However you want to do it is fine. But the plan is to put both the Trade classifications and Nobility blocks into each world article. Therefore I need to see example(s) that you are happy with to build the templates from.
- Tjoneslo (talk) 21:38, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

Ok. I will build it out to show you. Thank you.

Second point. The current T5 Rules indicate that the noble estates are singular. Meaning the world marked as "BcCe" has one Knight, one baronet, one Baron and one Vicount, each with one estate.
- Tjoneslo (talk) 20:43, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

I need to read the T5 book much more thoroughly so I can be half as conversant with it as you are. Thanks for this catch. Mea culpa. I can change the entries back to singular form.

- Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 21:23, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

I've asked on the CotI boards for clarification, but for now, all the entries should be singular.
- Tjoneslo (talk) 20:43, 25 June 2015 (EDT)

I just read your post at CotI. I always assumed there could be multiple knights, at the minimum, on a planet. If I were a count or duke, I'd half a few dozen to help protect my interests, in true "feudal confederation" style. Feudalism is based on a pyramidal structure with many lesser minions below a more powerful one. But, I am not a rules-structure-monger. I much prefer the story rather than the game mechanics. Let other people compare and argue the minutia of the game mechanics (rules) of different editions. Still, I'm glad that some people have an interest in the game minutia rather than the story.
