Singer
A person who performs songs for the benefit of an audience.
- It is a vocation.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
A singer is an Entertainer that performs songs for the benefit of an audience. Whether this is "Live" (and the audience is directly present), or "Studio" (and the audience is remote in time and/or space) is important to the creative process but not to the definition of the role.
The performance created may involve the audience as its recipient only or as co-creators of it. In any case, the quality of the performance can be judged by the feedback from the audience - either immediately (in an interactive performance) and/or later in review.
The Singer may perform alone or as part of a group called a Chorus. They may perform unaccompanied, or with the support of Musicians.
Singing may also be a solitary activity, a private activity. While the individual undertaking the singing is still called a Singer, they don't qualify as an Entertainer due to the lack of an audience.
