Saesoulou is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a member of the Ruler of Five in the Reofhunkdzo's Subsector of Gzaekfueg Sector, which is part of the Vargr Extents.

Mainworld Atmosphere[edit]

Saesoulou has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Saesoulou holds the shipyards and drydock facilities for the radius of seven parsecs trailing to far more coreward or rimward. Extremely difficult for tramp traders to reach for repairs and overhauls, Saesoulou has either been de-selected by lower range vessels or fees have been paid for Jump Tender services, funds which have enriched this world into an era of prosperity. However, with the ascension of coreward Dhillourr (Gzaekfueg 1413) to TL-14, 15 and very high-tech 16, that era is slowly dwindling. As more Jump-3 or better drives are sold and installed, the business for Saesoulou Jump Tenders is fading.

With the slow descent of jump tending, Saesoulou has re-focused its services to shipyard repairs and refitting. Captains often bring purchased starship systems along the coreward-rimward, Cyan trade route which presents a backhanded, complimentary statement to the technicians of Saesoulou. The dockworkers and shipyard crews are installing the very systems that are downgrading their economy. This has caused locals to upcharge for their Downport services.

Ruled by an Impersonal Bureaucracy of various Guildmasters, the needed influx of funds from the shipyards gives little time for union protests, pickets except when labor strikes halt work and delay starship Captains’ schedules. With only seven million thirsty Urzaeng Vargr on the mainworld and a weaponless Law Level violence between blue collar workers and management has thus far been limited to Charisma Infighting. This has given rise to an illegal smuggling of weapons to Saesoulou to up the ante for the next union strike to become bloodthirsty.

Saesoulou has a bright white, F-type, main sequence stellar primary. The star’s white glare has fed the market for eye protection ranging from sunglasses to full filtering goggles. Armored helms of visiting Vargr are often modified with such FlashProof protections. Another hot commodity is harvested ice from the polar caps from the 10% Hydrosphere of the mainworld and ice ring(s) from other worlds. The lack of Gas Giants has maximized costs for unrefined and refined fuel and is another logistics headache for starship Captains seeking refit.

With the Non-Industrial and Poor Trade Classifications local deem as curses, Saesoulou teeters on a delicate balance of its starship services economy. Coupled with its remote location to which only military vessel generally hope to reach, many contracts for shipyard queue are held by the Ruler of Five Navy adding more wait time on docking, maintenance, overhauls and turnaround. This has strained safety standards on the landing fields and pads to land and lift starships as quickly as possible.

To balance the precarious economy on Saesoulou, the Guildmasters have launched an aggressive marketing campaign by touting that Reofhunkdzo's Subsector holds more Cyan trade route node-worlds than any other subsector in Gzaekfueg Sector. As an interstellar caravanserai, Saesoulou keeps the important route from detouring as it does in Ungludh Subsector. It is this argument that keeps starship Captain complaints to a low growl on in-system Comms. Such is the fragility of this A-rated Downport that Corsairs are on their best behavior upon jump breakout, for the nearest A-rated Downport is found on very low-populated Gnurskfonan (Gzaekfueg 2024), seven parsecs distant in 'soenk Subsector. To opt for Gnurskfonan runs across a culture of religious fanaticism in worlds immediately coreward and rimward, often a hassle that keeps vessels on the Cyan route and opening their credit accounts to the fee hikes.

World Starport[edit]

Saesoulou has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Saesoulou possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Saesoulou is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

World Law Level[edit]

The need to keep a tight shipyard and drydock repairs facility turnround has required a Law Level of A (10).

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources 7: Few resources
  • Labor 5: Hundreds of thousands
  • Infrastructure 2: Extremely limited
  • Efficiency +3: Efficient

Trade Data[edit]

Saesoulou, though Efficient, produces only 210 Resource Units (RU or 'aryu').

World Demographics[edit]

No information yet available.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity 5: Harmonious
  • Acceptance 7: least Aloof, bordering Friendly
  • Strangeness 6: Very Distinct compared to the interstellar neighborhood
  • Symbols B: Middling Abstract easily overcome by native speakers of Urzaeng

World Language/s[edit]

While Urzaeng is the most widely spoken language on Saesoulou, the dialect has had millennia to borrow words from Ovaghoun, Logaksu and Suedzuk dialects. Logaksu is the chosen merchant language used locally though Vilani and Anglic have creeped coreward to Saesoulou through visiting Travellers.

Urbanization[edit]

World Infrastructure[edit]

Saesoulou has an Extremely Limited (2) Infrastructure.

World Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:

Later Eras[edit]

  • 1154: Dhillourr formulates plans to liberate and colonize Teksuelats Subsector twenty years after the Collapse
  • 1155: After a brutal space battle, TL–16 Dhillourr vessels destroy incoming Vampire ships: Saesoulou is liberated and its A-rated shipyards miraculously preserved.
  • 1156: Saesoulou formally annexes to the banner of Dhillourr when new advanced components arrive, enabling construction to commence on the next generation of its liberation fleet
