Port Royal is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the McKenzie Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector in the Domain of Sol.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
The Port Royal system is a binary star system with 8 planets, three of which are gas giants. The mainworld of the system is a moon orbiting the first and largest gas giant in the system located in the habitable zone of the close binary stars.
System Data[edit]
The Port Royal system contains five rocky planets and three gas giants orbiting the barycenter of the close binary stars. The barycenter is located approximated 0.09 AU beyond the primary G3 star.

Mainworld Data[edit]
The moon of Port Royal is one of five satellites around the gas giant located in the habitable zone of the binary star system (approximately 1 AU from the barycenter of the system). The moon is 8.5 million kilometers from its planet and orbits it every 50.14 standard days. It is tidally locked to its planet.
The gas giant Port Royal orbits has an average diameter of 284,800km, placing the moon inside its jump shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Port Royal is approximately 4,267km in diameter. The standard gravity of the world is 0.96g.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
The atmosphere of Port Royal is very thin with a standard atmospheric pressure of 0.05. Survival gear is essential for survival outside of habitats.
The distance from the binary stars, absence of a significant atmosphere, and slow rotational period relative to the stars causes the moon to have extreme daytime and nighttime temperatures. The average daytime and nighttime temperatures are 191°C and -166°C respectively.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Only 4% of the planet's surface is covered by any liquid water. There are no major bodies of water of note.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Port Royal is a non-industrial world located in McKenzie Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector. The system is a member of the Imperium and contains a Naval Base and Scout Base; it serves as the subsector capital.
- Port Royale is an Imperial fortress world placed on a barren moon with limited Solomani population; the city is burrowed deep under rock. The inhabitants are a carefully screened mix of military families and trusted civilian contractors.[2][3]
Imperial High & Landed Nobility[edit]
Port Royal, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial subsector duke, who also conducts affairs regarding the entire subsector at the Interstellar and Imperial level.
Government Profile[edit]
The government of Port Royal is a representative democracy. The inhabitants of the system are extremely devoted to the concepts of representative democracy to the point that all government functions are ran by elected councils or committees. A tricameral legislature is elected in two-year cycles for six-year terms, meaning one of the three legislative bodies will be replaced every two years. All three legislative bodies must approve all new legislation. The executive functions of the government are performed by elected councils, typically of 20 or more members each. For example, the Ministry of Water has a 27-person council, elected every three years in first-past-the-post single member districts. Finally, all judicial decisions are made by rotating juries, elected from the population on six month terms. The extreme number of elections means the people are always well represented, but gridlock in the system causes slow change.[4]
Culture[edit]
The inhabitants of Port Royal are primarily Humaniti, primarily of the Vilani stock, although Solomani minorities do exist. Despite being an Imperial fortress world and the presence of an Imperial Navy base, the general society is generally peaceable.
Due to their extreme devotion to democracy and their insistence on using single member districts for most of their elections the political system is usually dominated by two political parties. The partisan nature of their elections has led to the inhabitants of the world to use colors associated with their favored party in almost all facets of their lives. It is not unusually for members of the Progress Party to decorate their habs with green carpets, wear green clothing, etc., while members of the Forward Party do the same with orange. Thankfully, this extreme partisanship does not extend outside of these signals of loyalty.
A visitor to the world may notice a wrist terminal worn by a significant portion of the population. This device is used by current elected officials to perform their functions. The nearly constant need to make government decisions forces those officials to have these devices on them to participate in votes.
Within the high society of Port Royal the custom of communal polygamy is practiced. The wealthy and influential will form group marriages, sometimes with up to ten members. This is not a practice that is often found amongst the lower classes.[5]
