Mercury is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Mora Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
- This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It also has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mercury has a solitary primary star.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies just within the zone's colder outer H- region.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Mercury is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Mercury has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences relatively low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Mercury has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Mercury is a supplier of food stuffs for the Military including Plant and meat based products. The military has an active procurement and logistics base for the Marines scouts and Navy. Megacorp suppliers such as Instellarms have offices at the star port to supply the fleet with everything it might need.
Large parts of the world are reserved as training ranges, and are off-limits to unauthorized personnel and civilians. Mercury handles training for both the Imperial Marines and Scout Service.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Mercury has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Naval Base.
- The world is host to a Scout Base.
The naval base hosts elements of the 73rd Fleet.
World Population (P)[edit]
Mercury has a population of 3,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Mercury possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Mercury has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
The world is controlled by a military junta.
World Law (L)[edit]
Mercury has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
