Melham is a nonindustrial fluid world.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of the Kingdom of Peladon in the Evalren Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Melham is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a white main sequence.
  • The secondary is a tiny white dwarf stellar remnant.
Melham has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

No information yet available.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Melham is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Melham has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Melham has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellites:[edit]

No information yet available.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No information yet available.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Exotic native life. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Melham has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

The starport is the private property of the Kingdom of Peladon. It is operated and run by the Kingdom.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Melham possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Melham is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Law (L)[edit]

Melham has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -3 (poor)

Within the Kingdom of Peladon, royal charters are granted to trade consortiums run by various noble houses -- transport corporations that gain this status become part of the Peladon Royal Merchant Marine, which grants certain rights and privileges while operating within the Kingdom. Competition to win and retain royal charters is fierce.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Melham has a population of 800,000

Urbanization[edit]

A single large urban center is surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 5 (harmonious)
  • Acceptance: 2 (very xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
  • Symbols: 8 (somewhat abstract)
