NIL[edit]
Shingans.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The native Shingans were limited in their technological development by their lack of dextrous appendages. Under the Ziru Sirka and the Rule of Man, Shingans formed a societal underclass while human settlers (Vilani and Geonee among them) governed the planet.
Despite their lack of technology, the Shingans cultivated an array of narcotics, which were consumed for medical, religious and recreational use. Offworld scientific studies were left largely incomplete, but early research discovered that the Shingan biome extended heavily into their brain tissue. During the early Third Imperium era, Shingan shamans discovered a rare natural substance that enabled them -- if psionic -- to commandeer the conscious mind of other beings.
In 350, the Imperial Navy interdicted the world before these Shingans were able to export the mind-controlling agents. Dreadnoughts were brought into the system, and Maaruur was cleansed of virtually all life, an example of the early Imperium's heavy-handed approach to Quarantine matters.
1,300 people at the highport -- 400 of whom were Shingans -– were relocated to the Khaam System. The 400 or so surviving Shingans were not a large enough sample to ensure the race's long-term survival. They were extinct within a few generations.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]
