Kerpan is an agricultural world with the potential to become an industrial power.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import many manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member world of the Percavid Marches region of the Korsumug Empire, located in the Persiphus Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This world was colonized by and is controlled from Jelmirt.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Kerpan is a binary star system.
- The primary is a red bright giant.
- The secondary is a tiny white dwarf stellar remnant.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x10 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belt.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Kerpan is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Kerpan has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Kerpan has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites:[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Kerpan is a world that should not exist. The star has too short a lifespan - a few tens of million years at most - for orbiting bodies to evolve beyond the molten protoplanet stage, yet Kerpan is a fully formed, mature world. It has been suggested that the world has been extensively terraformed but there is little evidence to support this. There are few ideas about how or why it could have been done, or indeed who could actually have done it.
- The geological structure of the world indicates it is billions of years old.
- Academics continue to debate the world's origins.
- Some propose that it is a previously unrecorded Ancients site.
Kerpan has been occupied by the Korsumug Empire.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Kerpan has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Demographics (P)[edit]
Kerpan has a population of 50,000,000
Urbanization[edit]
Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
- Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Kerpan possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Kerpan has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
World Military[edit]
No information yet available.
World Law (L)[edit]
Kerpan has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 9 (moderate)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: 8 (generally available)
- Efficiency: -3 (poor)
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 1 (ordinary)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 8 (friendly)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 1 (extremely concrete)
