Hiemalis is a pre-agricultural, nonindustrial garden world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
  • It is a pre-agricultural world with an environment suitable for large scale agricultural and livestock industries that have not yet been widely developed.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to gradually rise barring outside forces.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.
  • It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the The Barrens (Al I) Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

System Data[edit]

1 Gas Giants — 0 Planetoid Belts — 6 Other Worlds

The gas giant appears to have an erratic orbit, with potentially dangerous implications. This factor may explain the unusual nature of the mainworld.

4 of the additional worlds orbit the gas giant in its journey as moons.

The remaining 2 worlds lie closer to the primary and appear to be small and barren.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Hiemalis is a standard-sized world with a dense N-O atmosphere with a high concentration of noble gases. It is unusual in that it's axial tilt is 85 degrees, with it's hot/North pole pointed at the primary. Technically, it is a twilight zone world, but not tidally locked in the strict sense.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Hiemalis has vast oceans, with 3 large continents, 4 smaller ones, and a plethora of archipelagoes. 1 of the large continents is centered under the cold/South pole and icepack. There is a oceanic depression around the North/hot pole, which means there is actually water there.

Clearly, Hiemalis has a high level of tectonic activity.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

A vast array of local flora and fauna exist on Hiemalis. Most species are large compared to humaniti. Example of flora are:

  • Tall "trees" with bases 40m across the bole. Many have primitive sensory organs can can drop seed pods onto passerby accurately from great heights.
  • Flowering plants with 20cm flowers and fruits (multi-stoned) 30cm in size. These types typically can sense infrared and can jerk 30cm spines towards targets, penetrating cloth armor easily.
  • Fauna tend to be hard-shelled with 8 or more legs, with regenerative abilities. Eyes tend to be in 2 pairs, one upwards for defense, one forwards for hunting.
  • DANGER: Flora and fauna here are aggressive and find most Travelling sophonts to be desirable prey.

World Starport[edit]

Hiemalis has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Hiemalis downport is located on a plateau 20km from the coast of the largest continent which straddles the terminator. The local startown is Heavengate, which is located such that the small rotational fluctuation gives it a noticeable day-night cycle.

Hiemalis highport is a B-class starport by the technical definition. Many of the required capabilities are bare bones, however. The highport is certainly understaffed, and clearly does not expect regular traffic.

World Technology Level[edit]

Hiemalis possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Hiemalis is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.

World Law Level[edit]

Hiemalis has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.

Church law is the only law here. Travellers should expect no privacy and to be constantly critiqued and judged. Non-human sophonts explicitly are persona non grata, and are offered a chance to leave upon detection.

World Military[edit]

By local mandate, all citizens have continual military training requirements.

Heavensgate has 8 long-range missle systems positioned around the city, each maintained by a specific Church brotherhood or sisterhood.

World Culture[edit]

Solomani Church settlement. The Church carefully hand-selected 30,000 individuals that represented the ideals of the Solomani Church, from the leadership to the layfolk. A considerable population of monastic orders exist here. As a result, the belief set and mind set is the definition of "monolithic".
