Grange is an agricultural, nonindustrial, and very rich garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world. However, a rich world like this one can afford the cost of importation.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to incrementally rise barring outside forces. The world will grow even quicker when its industrial sector begins to develop.
  • It is a part of The Retreat in the Baradis Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

System Data[edit]

Adoo-Grange System[edit]

The primary is Adoo, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.57 Sols, a mass of 0.894 Sols, and a diameter of 1.265 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a dense atmosphere stormworld. (III) Grange orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere bigworld, (V) a dense stony planetoid belt, (VI) a small gas giant, (VII) a ringed large gas giant, and (VIII) a large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Grange[edit]

(III) Grange is designated the mainworld. It orbits Adoo at a mean distance of 0.71 AU (106.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 231 days 3 hours and a rotation period of 27 hours. The axial tilt is 15 degrees. Grange has a diameter of 10,003 km, a density of 5.55 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.86 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 54% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 17°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite[edit]

Grange retains a single natural satellite, a thin atmosphere hospitable world named Horbon:

(IIIa) Horbon (UWP H454000-0, orbiting Grange at 45 Diameters/450,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 314 million km², Water surface area: 170 million km², Land surface area: 144 million km².

Native lifeforms[edit]

Grange, the mainworld, lying within the habitable zone, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Horbon, Grange's hospitable moon, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The bigworld lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Grange has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Grange possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government[edit]

Grange has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
