A Hangar or Hanger is a location on a vessel used to transport subcraft and vehicles.
- It is also commonly known as a hangar bay.
- This component is considered to be Ship Equipment.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Hangers are designed to accommodate subcraft on a larger vessel. Normally a hanger can be sealed and can often act as an additional airlock.
- The hanger is generally accessed by large doors or hatches.
- It generally has independent life support and environmental systems.
- Some hangers may be open and unsealed, relying on docking tubes to connect to the subcraft (and functioning in a similar manner to bays).
- A hanger may have an associated office and Machine Shop.

Ship Launch & Recovery[edit]
Hangers may be positioned close to Launch Tubes, shipboard launch facilities designed to rapidly deploy subcraft.
- Vehicles (such as Air/Rafts) may have dedicated hangers or may be stored within the ship's cargo hold.
- Some hull configurations (...such as dispersed structures) make internal hangers superfluous. However, it is not uncommon for such designs may make use of subhulls and pods to create sealed, pressurized hanger space.
- Those hulls typically use External Cradles.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Many smaller ships carry utility smallcraft that are housed in hangers that closely match their shape and dimensions.
Larger vessels may carry big craft or starships within their hangers. Such subcraft generally require additional clearance room and their hanger space is correspondingly larger.
