Several large beasts, from the size of walrus to the size of whales, produce rare and valuable chemicals, and in some cases luxurious furs. Ashimshiik has a monopoly on exploitation and export, letting independent hunters take the risks while selling their catch to the company and buying their equipment and provisions from the company. Somehow, most hunters don't keep much of the income from their work.
