History & Background / Dossier[edit]

This world was sparsely settled during the Rule of Man, and later abandoned during the Long Night. Remains of a few small settlements have been discovered, though in truth there has been little investigation. After lying deserted throughout the Long Night, Brightlett was occupied by a Sydite garrison (see: Sydymic Empire), mainly as a territorial claim. In the late 600s, the Third Imperium drove through the cluster and the Sydites withdrew from the world without a fight.

After another couple of centuries lying fallow, Brightlett was again colonized, this time by the Imperials in 890. The colony was nothing more than a "landgrab", made in case anything useful was ever found here.

Thus far, nothing has.

Imperial High / Landed Nobility[edit]

World Starport[edit]

Brightlett has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The Downport is built on the remains of a Sydite installation dating to the Sydymic Empire.

World Technology Level[edit]

Brightlett possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Brightlett is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

Specifically, the planet's current leaders are drawn from the minor relatives of House Miracaaruu, who rule the world as a feudal dictatorship.

World Military[edit]

World Economy[edit]

Brightlett has little in the way of industry; just enough to keep the port open and the orbital defense/customs enforcement force in operation.
