Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Alverik is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Alverik has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Alverik has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Alverik was settled in the days of the First Imperium. The Long Night was very hard on Alverik -- without offworld trade, even survival was in doubt. The population crashed, and technology was forgotten by the small bands of nomads or mountain villagers who struggled to make a life for themselves.

The Third Imperium annexed Alverik more or less in passing, during the Pacification Campaigns, and was surprised to find people living here.

World Starport[edit]

Alverik has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The construction of the starport brought new prosperity to Alverik. The Downport is home to a number of starship-related businesses. There are extensive repair and construction yards, specialising in small military and civilian vessels of a utilitarian nature. General Products owns some of the yards, at which it builds an endless stream of Patrol Cruisers and Mercenary Cruisers for the Imperial Navy and private clients.

The Highport is a large installation, but many visitors feel that it lacks character. Everything is middle-of-the-road and inoffensive, mainly a result of endless wrangling between investors over various aspects of the design.

World Population (P)[edit]

Alverik has a population of 8,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • Small numbers of desert and mountain people follow their traditional way of life. Some actually dwell among the ruins of cities built before the Long Night.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

  • Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
  • Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
    • Variant dialects are used by the long-established communities predating the Third Imperium. Some of these may be almost unintelligible to mainstream speakers.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Alverik possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Alverik is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

World Law (L)[edit]

Alverik has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
