Zukalis has a very thin tainted atmosphere and a lack of available surface water. The system has a population between 10 million and 1 billion sophonts. This world is a satellite of a gas giant or another planet in the system. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Remnants Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Zukalis, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdom of a marquis. Both are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

Astrography and planetology

This world is part of the Parendis Meridian Cluster.

Zukalis, a moon of the gas giant Khalis, was originally a mining colony established by Interstellar Petrochemical Processing. After fifty years of exploitation, the mines were closed down.

History and background

In 866, IPP transferred ownership of the moon to Naasirka on the understanding the new owner would build a public Class C starport, as required by under IPP original charter. Instead Naasirka immediately began work converting the deep mines into a substantial settlement. Naasirka then transferred the head offices of its entire sector wide financial and insurance services to Zukalis. The worlds primary function is to house the administration center for the Naasirka-Mehdaat Insurance Consortium, the largest insurance underwriters in the sector and the sector registry of shipping, and the central clearing house for Banque de Dagudashaag. Due to the sector wide importance of the two companies, every other major insurance and banking institution in the sector has found it necessary to also set up offices.

Most of the population are employed either by Naasirka or its many competitors, and the employee settlements are considered completely off limits. This is a security measure.

Naasirka maintains a private class A port for use by its own fleet of courier ships, a larger, but still private class B port for use by other companies. There is a small public class C port, with an isolated, and fully enclosed star town on the surface to house visitors and relatives.

Medurma Main StarLines maintains its own class A port.

Zirunkariish holds a substantial, but minority, stake in the Naasirka-Mehdaat Insurance Consortium. In addition, Zirunkariish has substantial offices of its own, including a major trading clearinghouse, on Zukalis.

The world is increasingly being urbanized with a number of movements protesting this trend, and pushing for a return to the small town and increased environmentalism.
