Xiwa is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.
  • This is a frozen world, with a climate of extremely low temperatures.
  • This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Concord Subsector of Solomani Rim Sector in the Domain of Sol.

Description (Planetology)

History & Background (Dossier)

Xiwa is a non-industrial vacuum world located in Concord Subsector of the Solomani Rim. The system is a member of the Imperium.

A virulent civil war following the Solomani Rim War escalated into a devastating nuclear exchange. Most city domes were breached and over 80% of the population perished before the Imperial Marines could intervene. Its old governmental apparatus was shattered. Most of the remaining population lives in small settlements far from the old cities. Accordingly, Xiwa is under Imperial military rule and has been issued an Amber Zone travel advisory.

Timeline

  • 550s: Solomani prospectors discover extensive deposits of Zuchai crystals on Xiwa, useful for jump drive manufacturing.
  • 650s: Xiwa is divided into competing corporate mining fiefdoms, and also enjoys the beginnings of a jump drive manufacturing industry.
  • Mid-700s: A series of socialist revolutions sponsored by the Solomani Party unify five of the mining and industrial syndicates into the Xiwa Technum Collective. In self-defence, the other corporate fiefdoms formed the Xiwa Freedom League.
  • 1001: The defeat of Solomani forces in Concord Subsector triggers a brief civil war as each bloc attempts to seize control of remaining Confederation Army bases, planetary defences and highports. The appearance of the Imperial Navy halts the war.
  • 1053: The Imperium places the planet’s major starport and baronial seat on Xiwana, a domed city in the Xiwa Freedom League. This causes economic suffering in the rival Collective and leads to an ongoing sense of grievance.
  • 1087: The Collective’s civilian government falls to a military coup, replaced by a junta that advocates unification of the entire planet under Collectivist rule. Both sides subsequently mass forces which include tactical nuclear weapons that they secretly looted from wartime Solomani arsenals.
  • 1095: A planned coup against the Collectivist government leads to its leader starting a nuclear war. 80% of the population die. Imperial Marines arrive three weeks too late to do anything more than lead a relief and rescue operation, and arrest the few surviving members of the governments for violations of the Imperial rules of war.
