Xeres is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sena Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Sheri-Xeres System

The primary is Sheri, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Xeres orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV) a vacuum iceworld, and (V) a dense stony planetoid belt form the outer system. The outer worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I) Xeres

(I) Xeres is designated the mainworld. It orbits Sheri at a mean distance of 0.15 AU (22.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 31 days 9 hours: it is tidally locked to the primary. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Xeres has a diameter 6,516 km, a density of 4.79 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.44 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.58 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 33% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 22°C. The atmosphere is active and weather systems driven by the star and the seas scour the surface. The climate is seasonal.

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 133 million km², Land surface area: 89 million km², Water surface area: 44 million km².

Native lifeforms

Xeres has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Xeres has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Xeres possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Xeres is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
