Wissan is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Ras Tennol Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Lang-Wissan System

The primary is Lang, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) a dense atmosphere stormworld, and (I-II) Wissan, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II-I) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (II-II) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (III) a vacuum iceworld, and (IV) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I-II) Wissan

(I-II) Wissan is designated the mainworld. It orbits Lang at a mean distance of 0.23 AU (34.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 59 days 14 hours: it is tidally locked to Lang. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Wissan has a diameter of 6,273 km, a density of 4.72 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.42 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.47 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen, 11% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 18% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 12°C. The atmosphere is slow and moderate weather systems driven by the star work across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 124 million km², Land surface area: 102 million km², Water surface area: 22 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Wissan has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Wissan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Wissan possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Wissan is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
