Vuruna is a pre-agricultural and nonindustrial world lacking adequate development for its economy to become prosperous.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Natar Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Orlag-Vuruna System

The primary is Orlag, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.284 Sols, a mass of 0.723 Sols, and a diameter of 1.073 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Vuruna orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (VI) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Hulidan Subsystem

The companion is Hulidan, a red subdwarf star that orbits Orlag at 315 AU (orbital position (XIII), 47.1 billion km) and has an orbital period of 6,575 years. It has a luminosity of 0.0038 Sols, a mass of 0.114 Sols, and a diameter of 167,000 km. (I) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (II) a ringed small gas giant form the outer system. The gas giant retains satellites.

Kormash Subsystem

The far companion is Kormash, a dim red main sequence star that lies approximately 3600 AU from Orlag. It has a luminosity of 0.0025 Sols, a mass of 0.244 Sols, and a diameter of 334,000 km. (I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (II) a vacuum iceworld, and (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. None of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(III) Vuruna

(III) Vuruna is designated the mainworld. It orbits Orlag at a mean distance of 0.68 AU (101.7 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 240 days 21 hours and a rotation period of 21 hours. The axial tilt is 10 degrees. Vuruna has a diameter of 8,122 km, a density of 5.12 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.59 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.13 bar and a composition of 65% nitrogen (N2), 34% oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2) and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentages of atmospheric oxygen and carbon dioxide. Approximately 43% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 43°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans drive across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite

Vuruna retains a single natural satellite, a very thin atmosphere worldlet named Jantax:

(IIIa) Jantax (UWP Y322000-0, orbiting at 50 Diameters/405,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 207 million km², Land surface area: 118 million km², Water surface area: 89 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Vuruna, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Vuruna has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Vuruna possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Vuruna is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
