Vosen is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and is also a low-population vacuum environment with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Nabile Subsector of Bourne Sector.

System Data

Angell-Vosen System

The primary is Angell, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.056 Sols, a mass of 0.5214 Sols, and a diameter of 773,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere radworld orbits within the habitable zone. (II) an exotic atmosphere hospitable world, (III) the Vosen Main Belt, designated the mainworld, (IV) a ringed small gas giant, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Neue Subsystem

The companion is Neue, an ordinary red main sequence star that orbits Angell at a mean distance of 68.5 AU (orbital position (XI), 10 billion km) and has an orbital period of 785 years. It has a luminosity of 0.0268 Sols, a mass of 0.4258 Sols, and a diameter of 658,000 km. (I) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world orbits within the habitable zone. (II) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (IV) a ringed large gas giant, (V) a small ice giant, and (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(III) Vosen Main Belt

(III) the Vosen Main Belt orbits within the outer system and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 0.7 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 50 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 0.55 AU from the star and the outer edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 0.9 AU. The main inhabited body is named Worthit, with a mean orbital distance of 0.77 AU around Angell and an orbital period of 341 days 19 hours. It has a long axis of 150 km, a density of 7.45 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.016 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: -140°C in sunlight, -195°C in shadow.

Native Lifeforms

No world in the Vosen system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Vosen has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World technology level

Vosen possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Vosen has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World culture

This settlement is a tiny outpost established in a cooperative effort between, governmental, military and commercial interests. Isolated and left to its own devices, there is significant latitude in how the job gets done. This is a tiny stop over for larger convoys of vessels, military, scouts and merchant explorers headed out looking for new worlds. This represents a tiny cusp of civilization, a thin veneer.
