Velous Subsector is Subsector F of Far Home Sector.
Description / Specifications[edit]
Velous Subsector lies within Far Home Sector and is named for the Velous system and its red giant primary star. The coreward-spinward region is dominated by the Risa Cluster, the rimward-trailing regions lie within the Demon's Eye Rift, while the center of the Subsector contains scattered systems. The Scybrian Run Star Lane terminates in the coreward edge of the Subsector, while the Kuyt Chain Star Lane follows its spinward border. Fedan is the homeworld of the Hoppers, an insect-like Sophont species and humanity’s earliest allies in the Distant Fringe. The region saw heavy fighting during both the civil wars and the Scybrian Wars.

Nebula[edit]
- Demon's Eye Nebula
- The Cauldron Nebula, lying within Cauldron Sector, some 96 parsecs to coreward-trailing, can be seen as a star-studded luminous region in night-time skies from all of the worlds of the Subsector.
Bright Stars[edit]
- Basilisk's Eye (1723 Tarchon Sector). The extremely luminous white supergiant star, lying around 137 parsecs to coreward-trailing, can be clearly seen from all of the worlds of the Subsector.
- Demon's Eye (1621 Far Home Sector). The intensely luminous blue supergiant star, lying a parsec to rimward at its closest point, can be clearly seen from all of the worlds of the Subsector.

Demographics[edit]
Population: 11.586 billion sophonts.
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Solomani (Major Race): 9.553 billion (82.45% of the population), descended from human refugees fleeing the Destruction of Terra. They refer to themselves as Terrans.
- Other Non-Human Races:
- Hoppers: an estimated 2.026 billion Hoppers (17.49% of the population).
- Esaran: 7 million (0.06% of the population). A sophont species of Halcyon Sector. Most Esaran within the Subsector live within a canton that exists as part of the University of Tal Varisa.
- Temelik: approximately 200,000, found throughout human-controlled space.
Native Sophonts[edit]
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are the most commonly spoken within Irikusk subsector:
- Anglish. The language of the Firstworlds. A direct descendant of Fleet Anglic, widely spoken throughout the Distant Fringe. Most people know a few words and phrases of Anglish.
- Orometi. The language of the Protectorate of Leset and the Worlds of The Leader, the language the defunct Empire and a common language throughout the region. It is derived from Bengali and other south asian languages of old Terra.
- Teramil. A language of Halcyon Sector. It is most commonly heard along the Scybrian Run Star Lane.
Polities[edit]
The Firstworlds occupies the Risa Cluster, within the spinward-coreward regions of the Subsector

Capitals[edit]
Tal Varisa, the capital of the Firstworlds, is the default Subsector capital.
Subsector Summary[edit]
Velous, subsector F of Far Home has 19 worlds, of which 15 have native gas giants. The estimated population for the subsector is 15 billion sophonts (not necessarily humans). There are two High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, eight Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, four Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. There are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds versus two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, and three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds. There are three Rich (Ri) worlds versus one Industrial (In) world. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, one Desert (De) world, one Garden (Ga) world, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, seven Poor (Po) worlds, two Vacuum (Va) worlds, and two Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds. There are no Naval bases in the subsector, no Scout bases, and no Way stations. The highest population world is Tal Varisa (Far Home 0911). The highest tech level is B at Tal Varisa (Far Home 0911). The average technology level is 7 (with most between 4 and 9).
Polity Listing[edit]
The Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Velous encompasses 14 worlds with a population of 4 billion. The highest population world is Dhon (Far Home 1511). The highest tech level is A at Maujen (Far Home 0917), Redous (Far Home 1220), and Seich (Far Home 1512). The average technology level is 7 (with most between 4 and 9).
The Firstworlds in Velous has jurisdiction over five worlds with a population of 11 billion. The highest population world is Tal Varisa (Far Home 0911). The highest tech level is B at Tal Varisa (Far Home 0911). The average technology level is 6 (with most between 3 and 8).
History & Background[edit]
Velous Subsector was settled by humans of the Last Armada almost three and a half millennia ago, but development was abruptly ended with the onset of the Dark Age, nearly two thousand years ago. Following the Renaissance period survivor worlds were recontacted, scavengers picked over the remains, and hardy pioneers looked to the empty systems and the opportunities they presented. Almost all expansion and growth within the region is relatively modern, beginning during the so-called Golden Age and continuing with the nebulous Development Organizations and the rise of polities.
- A strong social divide exists between wealthy and aristocratic Fives, descended from the original settlers and crew of the Last Armada, and Gens, individuals whose ancestors were grown in GenPods and raised by Hoppers.
- Tal Varisa and Dhon are two of the original Seven Colonies and have been inhabited by humans for millennia.
Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]
Some of the more important historical events that have affected this area include:
- 2255AD: The Last Armada arrives in the Demon Cluster. The Seven Colonies are established. Year One.
- 2500AD: The monolithic and anti-expansionist Second Confederation is founded. Settlement within the Demon Cluster is restricted to its coreward regions: Velous Subsector sees extensive development and expansion.
- 3730AD: Voyagers arrive and devastate the Subsector. The Dark Age begins.
- 4549AD: The Voyagers depart and the Dark Age ends. The Renaissance sees the first steps back into space.
- 4830AD: Tal Varisan Development begins sporadic commercial exploration of the Subsector.
- ca 4900AD: Golden Age. Space travel becomes relatively commonplace.
- ca 5116AD: Tal Varisan Development merges with the worlds of the Risa Cluster to form the Firstworlds.
- 5344AD: Scybrian Wars begin.
- 5489AD: Scybrian Wars come to an end.
- 5600AD: Data for Velous Subsector is published in the DSP Listing.
