Velous is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Velous Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data[edit]

Almirsa-Velous System[edit]

The primary is Almirsa, a red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2485 Sols, a mass of 8.3 Sols, and a diameter of 409 million km: the corona of the star lies at approximately 1.37 AU, just within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (V) a vacuum worldlet, (VII-I) a trace atmosphere inner world, (VII-II) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (VII-III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (VIII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world – orbital positions (I) through (IV) lie within the star and orbital position (VI) is empty. (IX-I) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (IX-II) Velous, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (X) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (XI-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (XI-II) a large gas giant, (XII) a ringed large gas giant, and (XIII) a large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Luru Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Luru, an orange subdwarf star lying approximately 3,840 AU from Almirsa. It has a luminosity of 0.081 Sols, a mass of 0.39 Sols, and a diameter of 506,000 km. (I) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (II) a small gas giant, (III) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (IV) a small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IX-II) Velous[edit]

(IX-II) Velous is designated the mainworld. It orbits Almirsa at a mean distance of 42.3 AU (6.3 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 95 years 12 days and a rotation period of 233 hours. The axial tilt is 48 degrees. Velous has a diameter of 9,888 km, a density of 7.48 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.05 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.31 bar and a composition of 67% nitrogen (N2), 31% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen and concentrations of airborne heavy metals. Approximately 27% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: 27°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and experiences major seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star and the seas drive across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 307 million km², Land surface area: 224 million km², Water surface area: 83 million km².

  • The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between the extremely high levels of UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Almirsa-Velous System[edit]

No world in the system is known to have native life.

Luru Subsystem[edit]

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World Starport[edit]

Velous has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level[edit]

Velous possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Velous is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: G (Extremely abundant)
  • Labor: 3 (Thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (Extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: +1 (Average)

Trade Data[edit]

48 Resource Units.

World Demographics[edit]

Population 72,500

World Culture[edit]
