Vastur is a nonindustrial desert hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- This world has no free-standing water.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Esqua Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- It is a Voluntarily Regressive World

System Data
Silan-Vastur System
The primary is Silan, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 2.126 Sols, a mass of 1.144 Sols, and a diameter of 1.639 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere radworld, (II) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (IV-I) Vastur, designated the mainworld, and (IV-II) an exotic atmosphere hospitable world, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (V) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VI) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VII) a ringed large gas giant, and (VIII) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Oslav Subsystem
The primary is an ordinary red main sequence star lying appproximately 23,200 AU from Silan. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (II) a dense stony planetoid belt, and (III) a ringed small ice giant form the outer system. Only the gas giant retains satellites.
Mainworld Data
(IV-I) Vastur
(IV-I) Vastur is designated the mainworld. It orbits Silan at a mean distance of 0.89 AU (134.6 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 286 days 17 hours and a rotation period of 26 hours. The axial tilt is 24 degrees. Vastur has a diameter of 7,826 km, a density of 4.72 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.52 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.89 bar and a composition of 83% nitrogen (N2), 16% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the relatively low percentage of atmospheric oxygen, the lack of water vapor in the atmosphere, and large amounts of airborne silicates and dust. Vastur is a desert world: less than 0.1% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 46°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star sweep across the globe.
Satellite
Vastur retains a single natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Dulcina:
- (IV-Ia) Dulcina (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 45 Diameters/350,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 192 million km², Land surface area: 191.8 million km², Water surface area: 170,000 km².
- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between the [extremely] high levels of UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
Native Lifeforms
Silan-Vastur System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Oslav Subsystem
No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Vastur has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Vastur possesses a Technology Level of TL–2.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Runners or beast relay, the printing press, long distance signaling such as the heliograph and semaphore.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Water wheels and wind power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Riding beasts and creature-drawn wheeled vehicles.
- Water: Sailing vessels.
- Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability or ride-able flying beasts available.
World government
Vastur is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
