Utogagzae (Kn 1327) is a low-population, nonindustrial vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a member of the Ascendancy Pact in the Irrarrdhang Subsector of Knoellighz Sector in the Vargr Extents.

History & Background (Dossier)

The frontier ambiance is especially evident on Utogagzae (Knoellighz 1327) C200200-7 Lo Ni Va as 400 Vargr work to maintain the C-rated Downport on this Failing world. Lacking sufficient Tech Level, the next system failure can spell disaster for an environment module, an underground den chamber, the docking interface or other sealed structure. Yet it is here that business of starship services is conducted. It earns the frontier waypoint a small amount of income in addition to the true calling of this out-of-the-way station.

The hot, main-sequence M2 V star in the Utogagzae system closely guards its habitable zone and does not share well with the mainworld in Irrarrdhang Subsector. Possessing three Gas Giants and two planetoid belts, Utogagzae as a world is a belter’s find. The local Downport is little more than a rest stop and repair shop for mining operations.

Yet, behind the façade of a badlands frontier outpost is the carrion truth. The Corsair band called the Cleaners is truly the administration behind the Downport. Besides repairs for scavenger vessels of the salvage operations, the mainworld also possesses a vessel deconstruction facility. As each find of the Cleaners is brought to one of two sister Corsair Bases in the cluster, the mechanics and electricians begin work on disassembling for refurbishment and shipment to second-hand markets after all serial numbers and other identifiers are carefully removed or obscured. Since the Cleaners do not attack ships, no discovered derelict has signaled Naval vessels. Cleaners follow ships through the cluster and wait for a captain to make a routing mistake that leaves a ship without fuel. There are very few refueling facilities and Gas Giants in the Jump-1 cluster found in the Spinward edge of the Ascendancy Pact. A wrong jump without backup fuel spells disaster for a crew and a vessel. After all crew are sufficiently deceased, the Cleaners arrive to ‘claim’ the derelict starship. Mining vessels, liners, tramp traders, all are worthy targets for the Corsair vultures. Without violence, the band searches the stars and circles the cluster until a find yields ships, systems, components and personal gear and equipment to be hauled to Utogagzae for refurbishment and resale. It is the lack of filing salvage claims that puts this Corsair band on the wrong side of polity law. No families are notified, nor are finds reported. It is a quiet bit of peaceful piracy the Cleaners engage in the stellar cluster. It is suspected that agents of these “chop-shop vultures” might be guilty of sabotage of docked vessels in civilized Starports, but nothing has been so far proven.
