Subsidized Liner (type M): Using a 600-ton hull, the subsidized liner is a passenger and freight carrier committed to long-haul routes. [1]

Basic Ship Synopsis

M Subsidized Liner. 600 tons. Jump-3. 1-G. 210 tons fuel. Model/3. 30 staterooms, 20 low. 3 hardpoints. Launch. 129 tons cargo. Unstreamlined. 9 crew. MCr236.97; 22 months. [2]

Description (Specifications)

It has jump drive-J, maneuver drive-C, and power plant-J. Fuel tankage for 210 tons supports the power plant and allows one jump-3. Adjacent to the bridge is a computer Model/3. There are thirty staterooms and twenty low berths. [3]

No turrets or weapons are installed, but there are three hardpoints and three tons are set aside for fire control. The ship has one 20-ton launch. Cargo capacity is 129 tons. The hull is unstreamlined. The subsidized liner requires a crew of nine: pilot, navigator, three engineers, three stewards, and one medic. The pilot operates the launch; gunners may be added to the crew list as required. The ship costs MCr236.97 and typically takes twenty-two months to build. [4]

Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [5]

History & Background (Dossier)

Subsidized Liners are less common than the ubiquitous free trader, but they carry far more passengers along established trade routes. While the Type M can carry significant amounts of goods cargo, they are better known for hauling passengers, typically tourists and colonists.

Selected Variant Classes

The Type M class Subsidized Liner is one of the most common starships found within Charted Space. Many variant classes exist of this type:

  1. Type M class Subsidized Liner
    1. Condor class Subsidized Liner
    2. Queen class Modular Subsidized Merchant [7]
    3. Stellar class Subsidized Liner
