Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [6]

Numerous models of various tech levels and styles appear over a millennia to the present. The earliest ship models were believed to be Vilani from the Vilani Empire before the Ziru Sirka, but many records were lost after the Rule of Man. [8]

History & Background (Dossier)

The Type A becomes the cornerstone of interstellar commerce by the end of the TL:7-9 tech epoch. It can operate under impromptu circumstances as a tramp liner and typically transports interstellar mail along all but the most frequented trade routes. A great number of variant classes of the Type A have been manufactured over the millennia. [9]

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities

The Type A itself doesn't have a specific naming practice. However, it's many classes and subclasses do... The naming practice of the Beowulf class Free Trader are best known. They are named after the heroes of sophontic literature. [10]
