Double Adventure 5 for Classic Traveller.
Description
The Chamax Plague
A 40-ton pinnace inbound from the outer system at Alenzar (Foreven 3229) is moving at high speed but not under power. After boarding the ship is found in total disarray and completely deserted, except for a single survivor found hidden in a tiny space behind a communications console. The survivor becomes agitated, screaming about "the Chamax" before losing consciousness. A coded message was found.
The pinnace, which could not be controlled and ended up destroyed in the system sun, was part of an expedition to an outer planet of the system, called Chamax, to study ruins. Initial reports were promising and the expedition was trying to discover what destroyed the previous culture on the planet, possibly a terrible disease , termed the "Chamax Plague". No follow ups came until the pinnace appeared. The survivor, the pinnace pilot, is still under treatment. Fourteen other members of the expedition are unaccounted for.
The adventurers are offered a contract to investigate the disappearance of the expedition and search for survivors. Speed is critical.
Horde
Takes place on Raschev (Foreven 3230), a short distance from Alenzar. It is a relative backwater, with locals inclined to look up to off-worlders, particularly Imperials. A strange spacecraft has landed near the capital. The adventurers, as off-worlders and likely experienced with the outside universe, are asked for assistance in identifying the strange vessel by the local government and to assist the local militia who are surrounding the craft.
Meta-history & Background
The Chamax Plague was play tested at the Chicago Wargamers Association Spring Game Fest in 1981.
A modified portion of Horde was used as the official Traveller tournament at Gencon east in 1981
As with all the Double Adventure books, the book has two front covers with the two adventures printed starting from each end of the book and therefore upside down relative to each other and each with their own page numbering.
