UWP History[edit]

There is some discussion about what the actual UWP for Oghma.

The original publication of the Trojan Reaches data is from the DGP GENII files published in 1989. This has

 Oghma 2020 B214754-9 Ic

And every reference through the publication of The Spinward States (Avenger Enterprises 2008) has the same values for Oghma.

In 2008 the T5 Second Survey (T5SS) project (Including Marc Miller and Don McKinney) reviewed all of the data in the all of the Imperial sectors. This is the data published to Traveller Map. All of the T5SS references (these copies of spreadsheets) I have show:

 2020 Oghma B534754-9 404 NaHu K5 V M5 V M4 V

So the T5SS review changed Oghma for their own, undocumented, reasons. But this has been the Oghma system since at least 2014. And Mongoose was asked (by Marc) that any UWPs they published should use the T5SS data as published on Traveller Map. Further digging shows the Aslan was initially published with with the pre-T5SS Oghma UWP. But the publication of the Pirates of Drinax had the new and updated UWP data. There were a couple of back and forth, but Mongoose 2nd edition books all have the new UWP.

Explaining the difference[edit]

From the Mongoose Books:

Oghma is an iceworld, but retains enough of an industrial base to build jump-capable starships. The rulers of Oghma intend to conquer their neighbouring worlds along the Dustbelt by weakening their industrial and technological bases. Over the course of generations, the Oghman raiders have targeted scientists, teachers, engineers and craftsmen in their slaver raids. The Oghmans are savage xenophobes ruled by tribal warrior kings, where a warrior’s worth is determined by how many jump-capable ships he ‘rides’ and how many soldiers he commands. Oghman Raiders are a common threat in Sindal subsector; they are despised by all civilised worlds.
The starport is run by GeDeCo, and is comparatively safe – the Raiders know better than to attack interstellar shipping, and instead prey on weak backworlds.

From this: The primary world in the Oghma has a moderate size (size 5) world with a large icy moon (size 1 or 2). The Oghman raiders set up a base on the moon centuries ago, and has expanded to the approximately 400,000 people. The population large lives in underground towns dug out of the moon's surface. When the IISS and other map makers showed up for the Second Survey they gave the "mainworld" status to the moon. Later, as the GeDeCo starport became a commercial success they lobbied, successfully, to have the larger world where they built their starport declared as the "main world". The Raiders don't like this, but are not politically connected enough to do anything about it.
