The use of "Galactic East" and "Galactic West" is confusing.

A user has pinged me wondering why "spinward" is "east" but on the _left_ edge of the map. Given the definition of Galactic East that it "follows the clockwise spin of the galaxy", the page is correct. I'm unclear if that aligns with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_coordinate_system - that page is a bit quirky. But "galactic east" and "galactic west" do not appear to be very common terms; most google hits point at RPG references and some are contradictory.

Hi User:Inexorabletash. Please also feel free to invite your friend, the other "user" to join the Traveler Wiki as an active user and start making edits and adding-creating new material. It sounds like the greater Traveller community would greatly benefit from a mind like yours and that of your "user" friend. I'm more of a linguistics and biological sciences guy and it would be good to have more astronomy and physics guys. Thanks!

East and West are not used in galactic directions. There is a Galactic North used in some coordinate systems, but by usual definition is the axis of rotation of the galaxy. North becomes up when you are facing coreward with spinward to your right. So all of the Traveller Maps are looking down from the Galactic South.
