Talk:Darmine (race)

The 1201 Traveller Map data renames Titania (Zarushagar 0622) to Lodri-Hap, as part of a new Darmine Federation. This suggests that the system names with similar form in 1105 are also Darmine-named. This assumption is supported by the fact that a fair few are on the same main as Ishag (Zarushagar 1323).

  • Kawa-Kwi (Zarushagar 1420)
  • Keeli-Ho (Zarushagar 1314)
  • Konat-Kale (Delphi 0925)
  • Leng-Hioh (Delphi 0114)
  • Rommen-Kucera (Massilia 0217)
  • Skaob-Heti (Zarushagar 2422)
  • Ter-Ritt (Zarushagar 2023)
  • Toulon-Cadiz (Zarushagar 0510)

I'd also propose that the otherwise anomalous names of F’ornans (Zarushagar 1427), K’pyrene (Zarushagar 0827), N’mra (Zarushagar 1113) and T’saeris (Zarushagar 2212) be Darmine in origin, given their location.

Notes (2018)[edit]

The Darmine were canonized many years ago, probably in the 1990's despite the paucity of canon references.

  • Several drafts of alien books for this race were prepared over the years, but none reached publication.
  • Hopefully, one of the existing publishers will bring out a book soon.
  • I know of at least one author team working on a current draft.

Notes (2017)[edit]

Actual canonical information on this race is VERY limited:

  • MT Imperial Encyclopedia has "Darmine: Cultural region in the Zarushagar sector. Darmine had a separate but submerged cultural identity within the First Imperium and happily threw off that domination when the First Imperium fell. Allowed to flourish by the Rule of Man, the community of worlds survived the Long Night with little harm. Darmine was the major focus of the llelish Pacification Campaign (76 to 120)."
  • MT Referee's Manual's "Map of Imperial Cultural Regions" shows them in Zarushagar subsectors J, K, N, O, and P with a world marked "Liasdi" in J. (It's unclear if this denotes the sector capital or a homeworld.) Note that subsector N has almost no worlds as it is in the Great Rift.
  • Traveller's Digest 21 has an adventure set in Zarushagar subsectors O and P but does not mention Darmine, though Lianma (1727) is described as "the site of the notable Battle of the Dwarf Sun, fought in -4210 during the Vilani Consolidation Wars."
  • Challenge 75 has only "Interfertile human subspecies are thought to have colonized much of Zarushagar sector, including Irap (2630), before the founding of the Old Imperium. Certain facets of Darmine culture persist into the present day, the most notable being the race's language, Kadli."
  • GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars has the Darmine revolting against the Vilani in -2223.
  • The T5SS has the Darmine homeworld as Ishag (1323). Both Lianma and Liasdi have significant (80%+ and 70%+ respectively) populations of Darmine.

That might be it.
