* It is a military ship and a Destroyer.

Description (Specifications)
No information yet available.

Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary.

Expanded Template[edit]

A version of Maksim's excellent template with a number of additional and expanded data fields.

Simply copy lines or blocks of data from below and paste them into Maksim's table - care must be taken to delete superfluous data or it'll cause issues with the end result. If your ship doesn't have the described feature (perhaps no cargo ramp, or no ECM) then prune or delete the data until you're happy with it. It may also be necessary to pluralise (or perhaps de-pluralise) some data entries (1 dual plasma gun turret versus 10 dual plasma gun turrets, for example). Best advice, apply grammatical common sense and aim for "readable".

Notes

Simple editing tools:

  • Control Z (undo) is your friend while editing. It allows you to backtrack thru changes made during the current editing session
  • Control Y (restore) is also available. It allows you to immediately reverse an "undo" (Control Z) you have done. Just in case.

Particular care must be taken with data preceded by a | (vertical bar). The vertical bars are part of the structure of the table and if extra ones are put in, they add spurious extra right-hand cells to the table. Looks really bad. Vertical bars are also used within links, best to be cautious around them.

  • The reverse is also true, don't go taking out stuff that is necessary to make the table work.

Double square brackets denote a link within the data, as normal.

A single square bracket [ and ] around data further serves to highlight areas where choices must be made and superfluous data must be deleted. Make sure the single square brackets are also removed.

"XXXX" denotes "fill in the appropriate name or number here".

  • Some of the additional data is pure fluff. If it doesn't appeal, change it or get rid of it - the template is a structure to help frame your imagination, not a straightjacket for it. Bottom line, you've got to be happy with the end result.

Some sections (subcraft and hangers, but particularly weapons) can be a little confusing. With care and a bit of judicious copying and pasting it should work. Aim to keep it as concise as possible, delete all the surplus notes and the - - - (seperater) lines and stuff like that and it'll be fine.

Blank lines between paragraphs are necessary to produce separate paragraphs within a single table cell. If the blank line is not included, the text will run together and form a big (potentially confusing) block of data.

Things like hanger space have been added because their characteristics are relatively easy to extrapolate from designs, and these very specific areas of vessels are often the focus of intense player activity. Y'know, dodgy cargoes getting quarantined, boarding actions, special habitats for visiting alien entities, workshop space, permanent conversion to other uses, trying to jam in extra vehicles, that sort of thing. I'm going to keep tinkering with the format until I've covered most bases.
  • Specific details regarding things like the hangers are entirely optional and can be ignored if preferred.

Construction times

  • Build times are calculated using the Construction Time Table on page 33 of Trillion Credit Squadron. On that table, times are given in standard weeks. Build times in months are calculated using the following assumptions:
    • Standard Imperial years are 365 days long. They are broken down into 52 standard weeks, each of 7 days, plus a 1-day holiday marking the end of the year. Years (as I understand it) are also arbitrarily divided into 12 months, plus a 1-day holiday. Each month is 4.333 standard weeks (30 days 8 hours) in length.
    • Thus, build time in months equals build time in weeks divided by 4.333. This is usually rounded up, but on smaller vessels a fractional value for months may be retained.

Of course, this version of the template won't be to everyone's taste. But hopefully it provides inspiration and offers a degree of help when implementing additional detail onto a ship design.

Examples[edit]

A picture is worth a thousand words and all that.

Three examples of ships that have been detailed using the expanded data are provided for inspiration and guidance.

Check the Discussion Pages for these three vessels to see the templates used to create them. These are provided to give insight into how the table is structured and how the data within it has been edited, modified and generally mucked around with.

Modifiable Template[edit]

Copy lines or sections of data from below and insert them into the appropriate points in Maksim's table. Remove or modify elements of the data as necessary (please see Notes, above). Maksim's table structure is definitive and should be taken as the baseline: all designs should adhere to its structure.
