Sword Worlds Confederation Patrol

The Confederation Patrol in the Sword Worlds is an interplanetary police organization that oversees law and justice in the Sword Worlds at an interplanetary level, with authority similar to both a police force and a customs agency. The Patrol enforces trade restrictions between the Confederation and foreign worlds, protects Sword World investments, adjudicates disputes, and engages in piracy-suppression activities.

Description (Specifications)

The main obstacle for the patrol is the relatively small number of vessels it actually owns. The light auxiliaries are all theirs, but larger combatants are on loan from individual confederate member states. These are pooled resources for the collective good. It is not unheard of for local planetary politics to require the recall of a vessel is internal security demands require, much to the chagrin of the patrol personnel aboard that vessel at the time.

Mission (Goals)

The patrol is charged with suppressing piracy, smuggling and enforcing trade regulations across Sword World territory and beyond. Beyond the borders, missions have to be clearly defined, and are usually limited in duration for a specific objective. Examples, destroy that pirate base in that asteroid or disable that foreign listening post, drive off the alien picket vessel. Nothing to start a war, just border security maintenance as they see it.

Strategy & Doctrine (Operations)

Most patrol vessels are of lower displacement, some exceptions exist. System defense assets can get quite large. Older vessels retired from front line formations often end up in the patrol to squeeze a few more years of service out. Maintenance and endless cleaning, polishing, painting, scrubbing older hulls are the lot of many a junior rank member of the patrol. However, because they see a lot more action and small skirmishes some patrol crews have more actual combat experience than naval crews on larger vessels which serve as strategic deterrents.
