Sting is an agricultural world with a tainted atmosphere but still a near-ideal environment for producing foodstuffs. The system supports a population of tens of millions of sophonts. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.
Astrography & Planetology
Sting is a member of the Spinward Main.
Sting's thin atmosphere is tainted only in low-lying areas, where concentrations of heavy gases -- chlorine among others -- can be lethal to unprotected breathers. [2]
Sting is tidally locked to its primary, Bilbo, and orbits at a distance of 0.14 AU. Sting's continents have ground to a halt and erosion is gradually smoothing the planet flat and filling its seas with sediment. [3]
Much of the planet’s twilight zone is covered with plant life adapted to the endless winds moving from the cold side to the hot. The jungles that live off the eroded sediment have an incredibly thick canopy, which keeps the area under it relatively calm, but also difficult to explore. Flat as it is, the land drains poorly.[3]

History & Background (Dossier)
In 383, Hofud launched a campaign of conquest against Sting, forcing its government to flee into exile on Biter[4].
The majority of the planet's population lives in underground cities near the north and south poles. Sting's capital and starport, Vinduri, is located on the northwest corner of the Lyseside (light side) continent, near the north pole.
Prior to the Fifth Frontier War, Sting was a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation, but in the aftermath of the war Sting became part of the Imperial Client state known as the Border Worlds Confederation, and was the original capital. In 1116 the capital was moved from Sting to Beater (Spinward Marches 1424).
