The rank of Staff Sergeant (E6) is a non-commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Army.
Description (Specifications)
Each Platoon in the Imperial Army has one Staff Sergeant who is the most senior Sergeant in the unit. Some Imperial Army Battalion or Regimental (and above) staff appointments are also for Staff Sergeants.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Navy is Petty Officer First Class.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Marines is Staff Sergeant.
The Staff Sergeant of a Weapons Platoon of a Company is known as the Gunnery Sergeant
History & Background (Dossier)
The term sergeant refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal. The term staff sergeant thus refers to their being one of these sergeants who has one of the permanent roles in the battalion.
