Spirelle is a garden world with an environment conducive to most sophonts. The system has a population between 100 million and a billion sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Lunion Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Spirelle, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight and a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a baron and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Astrography & Planetology[edit]

Spirelle is a member of the Spinward Main.

Spirelle had a diameter of 11,630 km, standard oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere, 60% surface water, and a warm climate. The most populated parts of Spirelle consist of low-lying swampy islands and small land masses.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Spirelle, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of four members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

The Viscount is from the Rorise Family.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Spirelle has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Spirelle's starport is co-located with the world's largest seaport, with huge container ships delivering cargoes from all around the planet for export. These are usually shipped in standard (interstellar) shipping containers, which can be handled and loaded with no need to unload or repack[2].

Upper class Spirelle Society has a formal dress code that includes being fully gowned with gloves and decorated mask.[3]. Anyone of the middle class or higher should have at least one mask for formal occasions - even if it does not see the light of day much. These can be fabulously expensive.

Additionally, for adults, the exposure of the naked skin in public is considered improper. Long Sleeves, High Necks, Hoods or Turbans, Leg Coverings, Shoes, Gloves and Masks are polite - although Masks and Gloves are often worn as a token or forsaken altogether in the lower social classes.

Historical Data[edit]

The planet has a population of 723 million (of which 95 million are Droyne). The population is governed by a representative democracy, a medium law level, and a tech level of 8. The bulk of the population are easy-going and friendly, dispersed in small cities across the globe. Main sources of income are fish-farming, bulk rice and other damp-condition cereal cultivation, and mineral extraction.

Spirelle was settled around -7000 by the crew of a misjumped Droyne ship from Andor who increased in number until they reached a population of 130 million. By the late 1st Century, the population had remained steady for more than 2000 years. Relations with the various interstellar states that arose around them (the Sindalian Empire, the Old Darrians, the Sacnoth Dominate and the Sword Worlds of the Five States Era) remained remote; the Spirellans were unaggressive, seemed to have no interest in trade, and had no starships of their own despite a tech level of around 10.

This changed in 98 when merchant adventurer Annabel Rorise's ship broke down and had to make an emergency landing on Spirrelle. During the two years she was stuck on the world, she discovered that the Droyne hierarchs were interested in trade, but so slow and cautious that former attempts to establish trade with them had been abandoned before they bore fruit. Keeping this information to herself, she established a monopoly of trade with Spirelle and went on to found a powerful trading company (Rorise Trading) and a merchant family (Rorise Family) that survive to this day.

In 481 a group of Vargr exiles from Gvurrdon found the empty world Dawnworld and settled there unaware of the reason why it was empty. In 506 a team of researchers finally put together all the facts and the Vargr were resettled on Spirelle. The population Vargr on Spirelle remains small.

Humans have settled in out-of-the-way parts of Spirelle and have slowly grown in number. In the last century or so, they have begun squeezing the Droyne, whose numbers have declined from 130 million to 95 million in that time.
