System data

The system primary is Grend, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.52 Sols, a mass of 0.871 Sols and a diameter of 1.264 million km. The inner system consists of (I, II, III) three small rocky vacuum worlds. (IV) Slud orbits in the habitable zone and is designated as the mainworld. (V) a rocky world with a thin atmosphere, (VI) a small icy vacuum world, (VII) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VIII, IX) two large ringed gas giants, and (X) a sparse rocky planetoid belt form the outer system. Both of the gas giants and most of the larger rocky worlds retain families of satellites.

(III) Slud

(III) Slud is designated the mainworld. It orbits Grend at a mean distance of 0.7 AU (103 million km), it has an orbital period of 226 days 6 hours and a rotation period of 22.5 hours. The axial tilt is 9 degrees. Slud has a diameter of 9,963 km, a density of 5.62 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.68 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen, 23% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 38% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges are less than 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 9°C. The atmosphere is relatively dynamic and local weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, occur within lowland basins. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.

Satellite:

Slud retains a single natural satellite, a small vacuum moon named Flook.

(IIIa) Flook (H200000-0, orbiting at 30 Diameters/299,000 km).

Mainworld geography and topography

Much of the northern hemisphere is covered by the shallow Ocean of Mud: a large icecap is located at the northern pole. The southern hemisphere is dominated by the Transpolar Alps, an ice-covered range of high peaks with long rugged chains of mountains and hills radiating towards the equator. Between the upland regions are broad plains dotted with lakes and seas. The largest of these is the Great Temperate Hollow, more than 4000 km across and lying along the equator: the Hollow is the site of human settlement on the world.

Native lifeforms

Extensive native life. Flora green. Fauna follows general body pattern HBS-T-LN-LL-T, skeleton internal structure, hemolymph fluids, skin exterior.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Slud has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Slud possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government

Slud is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
