Shugarku is a nonindustrial, rich, agricultural world with improving living conditions due to a bustling agro-economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy is bustling and an increase in living conditions is expected in the near future.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sosie Subsector of Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector.

Description / Astrography & Planetology

Shugarku lies on the edge of the Glimmer Drift. Being so close to the Drift, the system has unusually dense concentrations of interplanetary dust, especially in the outsystem. This has the effect that many areas of the system are rather hazardous to jump to or from. Safe areas exist, particularly on the edges of the system's two asteroid belts, but without a keen knowledge of the local conditions, transit to and from the belts and the outer planets is best limited to normal-space. As a result, these areas are seldom visited and remain largely unexplored.

This system is part of the Slate Cluster.

History & Background / Dossier

Historically, Sugarku was one of the worlds of the Farreach Margravate, but its position reduced its importance in Margravate affairs.

World Starport

Shugarku has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level

Shugarku possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government

Shugarku is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
