Selena is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Tsorva Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System data

Kurikin-Selena System

The primary is Kurikin, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.352 Sols, a mass of 0.774 Sols, and a diameter of 1.168 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a dense atmosphere stormworld and (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld. (III) Selena orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a small gas giant forms the inner part of the outer system. Orbital positions (V) through (IX) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (X) a ringed small ice giant, (XI) a large gas giant and (XII) a dense icy planetoid belt form the outer part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Feldo Subsystem

The companion is Feldo, a dim red subdwarf star that orbits Kurikin at a mean distance of 10.3 AU (orbital position (VII), 1.54 billion km). It has a luminosity of 0.0074 Sols, a mass of 0.134 Sols, and a diameter of 127,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a very thin atmosphere bigworld, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (IV) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. The bigworld retains two satellites.

(III) Selena

(III) Selena is designated the mainworld and orbits Kurikin at a mean distance of 0.77 AU (115 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 280 days 13 hours and a rotation period of 41 hours. The axial tilt is 22 degrees. Selena has a diameter of 6,428 km, a density of 5.58 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.51 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.94 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by airborne pollens that cause severe allergic responses. Approximately 41% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 18°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 123 million km², Land surface area: 73 million km², Water surface area: 50 million km².

Native lifeforms

Selena has abundant native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Selena has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Selena possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Selena is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
