Saldazar is a poor, pre-industrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • This world would like to become a major industrial powerhouse in the subsector, but lacks the population and resources to build an adequate workforce and industrial business sector.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Foralin Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Chennor-Saldazar System

The primary is Chennor, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I-I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, and (I-II) Saldazar, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (III-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III-II) a large gas giant, (IV) a ringed small gas giant, and (V) a small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Larssen Subsystem

The companion is Larssen, a red subdwarf star lying approximately 7,550 AU from Chennor. It has a luminosity of 0.0092 Sols, a mass of 0.144 Sols, and a diameter of 234,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (III) a ringed large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Mainworld Data

(I-II) Saldazar

(I-II) Saldazar is designated the mainworld. It orbits Chennor at a mean distance of 0.28 AU (41.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 77 days 9 hours: it is tidally locked to Chennor. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Saldazar has a diameter of 5,584 km, a density of 6.46 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.51 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Chennor cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.69 bar and a composition of 70% nitrogen (N2), 28% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the very high percentage of atmospheric oxygen and by the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 8 rads per hour. Approximately 7% of the surface is covered in lakes of water kept liquid by geothermal activity. Mean surface temperature: -5°C. The climate is rated as Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star drive across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 98 million km², Land surface area: 91 million km², Water surface area: 7 million km².

  • Saldazar is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms

Chennor-Saldazar System

Saldazar, the mainworld, has primitive radiation-tolerant native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions and exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of moisture. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Larssen Subsystem

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Saldazar has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • Peace footing (government modifier x0.9). Port Capacity: 72,000 dTons.

World technology level

Saldazar possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Saldazar is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World military

Saldazar Security Squadrons are organized to protect trade and provide system defense capabilities.

World economy

Trade data

A number of important companies have their headquarters at Saldazar:

  • Rose Bloom & Co.
  • Samuel & Amsterdam Specialties

World culture

The atmosphere now possesses a strange set of properties that make large three dimensional holographic projections more readily visible. The darker, murky cast to the foul air is punctuated by vast columns of neon glowing ads and vivid, lurid images from the profane to the sublime. Buildings and sky scraper architecture are home to huge luminous projectors. Advertising avatars compete for the sensory input of would be customers. Ships in landing patterns, on automatic traffic control approach report flying through strange holographic images, some shocking and disturbing to the unprepared. The jaded tastes of the local culture has apparently grown indifferent to the sensory bombardment, and acts as if they don't notice the 20m tall characters cavorting around their vessels.
