Ras Tennol Subsector is Subsector G of Far Home Sector.

Description / Specifications

Ras Tennol Subsector is named for the Ras Tennol system and its red giant primary star. The spinward-rimward regions lie within the Demon's Eye Rift, the coreward-trailing edge contains a part of the Risa Cluster, while the center of the Subsector contains scattered systems. The New Border, Outland Run and Void Edge Star Lanes lie within the trailing half of the Subsector. The Occupied Territories, a number of systems lying in the coreward half of the Subsector, have been occupied by the militaristic Worlds of The Leader.

Interstellar Relations

The Worlds of The Leader is bombastic, militaristic and expansionist and is ruled by a social elite descended from Fives. It casts itself as a center of culture and excellence with a proud history and rich and noble traditions. Public buildings are monolithic and pristine, and are bedecked with flags and banners and the symbols of The Leader. Security within the state is extremely tight and military patrols and checkpoints are commonplace. Public announcements are broadcast featuring the proclamations of The Leader and filled with anti-Mantlerist propaganda. Despite its carefully maintained public image the state is in crisis, with shortages of almost everything, including basic life support supplies, foodstuffs and fuels. The entitled and increasingly detached ruling elite, descended from Fives, find themselves at odds with the deprived and repressed masses of the Gens, who increasingly display Mantlerist leanings.

  • The Vigs, the feared intelligence arm of the Worlds of The Leader, are extremely active within the Subsector. They maintain a network of informants, handlers and sympathisers and move against anybody they deem to be an enemy of the State. They are able to call on military units as required. They particularly target Mantlerist organisations or anyone suspected of having Mantlerist sympathies.
  • Political and social groups within the Firstworlds provide substantial funding and support for the Worlds of The Leader. A naval treaty dating from the Scybrian Wars enables the Firstworlds to funnel "surplus" equipment to the state: all of the major fleet elements of the Armada of The Leader originate within the Firstworlds, which also subsidises their ongoing maintenance and upkeep.

The Occupied Territories are former neutral human-dominated worlds that have been seized by the Worlds of The Leader, primarily to gain control of their ample natural resources or take advantage of their strategic position. The governments of each occupied system suffered Mantlerist-inspired insurrections and uprisings resulting in social breakdown and regime change. These new governments "invited" assistance from the Worlds of The Leader, which began pouring in troops and equipment to combat the "Mantlerist Menace". The populations of the systems are uniformly oppressed and security is tight. All the worlds of the Occupied Territories harbor active and well-equipped resistance movements, many of which are funded by the Protectorate of Leset and have strong Mantlerist leanings.

Ras Tennol is a burgeoning commercial center sitting at the hub of three Star Lanes, the Outland Run, the New Border Star Lane and the Void Edge. It is a major producer of starships and a significant power in the region. The vessels of the Ras Tennol Combined Fleet patrol the trade routes, ensuring the steady flow of interstellar trade and the protection of Ras Tennol's interests.

  • The government of Ras Tennol is alarmed by the expansion of the Worlds of The Leader and its annexation of the Occupied Territories. Pro-Mantlerist groups have gained support and social unrest is increasing. Increasingly extreme anti-Mantlerist political movements have emerged, advocating support for the Worlds of The Leader. There are frequent clashes and military units help maintain order.
  • Dramatically increasing levels of piracy along the Outland Run Star Lane require the commitment of a significant proportion of Ras Tennol's naval forces. This is placing an increasingly heavy burden on the world.

Capitals

Ras Tennol is the default Subsector capital.
