Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard.

Rampart Class Light Fighter: The Rampart-class Aerofighter (Fighter), is the most commonly deployed and high-tech (TL-15) starfighter within the Third Imperium.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Rampart Class (Aerofighter) has the following specifications (Performance Capabilities):

  • Operational Envelope: It is a very flexible craft capable of operating inside or outside of standard atmospheres, as well as in deep space. Various conversion packages exist to allow the Rampart to operate in heavily-tainted or other non-standard atmospheres. The Rampart was designed to be used on carrier starships, space stations, or even from planetary or planetoid bases.
  • Egress System: Both seats are capable of full operation of the Rampart and are equipped with advanced Zero-zero (i.e. zero altitude and zero airspeed) ejection seats. The pilots wear standard vacuum suits and the ejection seats are equipped with an advanced survival system in the case of space (vacuum) egress. Both the pilots and manufacturers have requested that escape capsules be built into the Rampart's successors as the standard ejection seat has a low survivability during atmospheric egress under high speed. Additionally, escape capsules can provide greater life support capabilities under space (vacuum) egress conditions.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) when necessary. [1]

Strategy & Doctrine (Operations)[edit]

Deployment Structure: The standard Rampart squadron consists of ten fighters:

  • Eight FL-128 single seat models
  • Two FL-128/2 twin-seat models

Variants[edit]

There are two primary models of the Rampart:

  • The FL128, a single seat version
  • The FL128/2, a two position command and control (c4i) version

The FL128/2 also serves as a trainer model for pilots receiving introductory and advanced training in Rampart usage. The (c4i) command & control package can be relatively quickly removed when converting the two-seat model to training mode.

The pilot sits in the front seat while the (c4i) operator works as a (RIO) "Rear-seat Instrument Operator."

In training mode, the pilot/trainee sits in the front seat while the pilot/instructor sits in the rear seat.
