Ragol is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Ragol Subsector of Course Sector.

Astrography and Planetology

System Data

Ragolis-Ragol System

The primary is Ragolis, a white bright giant star. It has a luminosity of 530 Sols, a mass of 8.1 Sols, and a diameter of 38.7 million km – the corona of the star extends to 0.13 AU. The inner system consists of (III) a vacuum worldlet, (IV) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (V) a vacuum inner world, (VI) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (VII) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (VIII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world – orbital positions (I) and (II) are empty. (IX) the Ragol Main Belt orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (X-I) a ringed small gas giant, and (X-II) a large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IX) Ragol Main Belt

(IX) the Ragol Main Belt orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 20 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 100 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 18 AU from the star and the outer edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 22 AU. The main inhabited body is named Ragol Boulder, with a mean orbital distance of 19.4 AU around Ragolis and an orbital period of 30 years 8 days. It has a long axis of 550 km, a density of 2.23 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.009 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: 55°C in sunlight, -105°C in shadow.

Native Lifeforms

No world in the Ragol system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Ragol has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Ragol possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Ragol is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
