Querte is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Farin Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Vasily-Querte System

The primary is Vasily, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2280 Sols, a mass of 7.4 Sols, and a diameter of 317 million km – the corona extends as far as 1.05 AU, to orbital position (IV). The inner system consists of (V) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VII) a vacuum worldlet, (VIII) a vacuum inner world, and (IX) an corrosive atmosphere inferno world – orbital positions (I) to (III) lie within the star and orbital position (VI) is empty. (X) Forex, a large gas giant, occupies the habitable zone: (Xc) Querte is its third moon and is designated the mainworld. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Orlov Subystem

The companion is Orlov, a dim red main sequence star that lies 2,950 AU from Vasily. It has a luminosity of 0.0025 Sols, a mass of 0.244 Sols, and a diameter of 334,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) a small gas giant, and (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. The gas giant and the bigworld retain satellites.

(X) Forex

(X) Forex is a large gas giant that orbits Vasily at a mean distance of 41.2 AU and has an orbital period of 97 years 78 days. It has a diameter of 94,000km and is a heavily banded blue colour. It retains a family of five major satellites of which the third, (Xc) Querte, is designated the mainworld.

Mainworld Data

(Xc) Querte

(Xc) Querte is designated the mainworld and orbits Forex at a mean distance of 35 diameters (3.43 million km), with an orbital period of 1 year 174 days: it is tidally locked to Forex. The axial tilt relative to Forex is 4 degrees. Querte has a diameter of 6,782 km, a density of 5.29 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.51 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Forex cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.16 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 12% oxygen (O2), 2% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases: the taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and gases of volcanic origin. Approximately 23% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 67°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and slow weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, crawl across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 145 million km², Land surface area: 112 million km², Water surface area: 33 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Querte, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Querte's warm seas teem with primitive life: they are gradually thickening the atmosphere and changing its composition.

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Querte has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Querte possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Querte is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
