Quann is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Brink Subsector of Shadow Rift Sector.

Dusk-Quann System

The primary is Dusk, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Quann orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II-I) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (II-II) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (III) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (IV) a large gas giant, (V) a ringed small gas giant, (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (VII) a ringed last gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I) Quann

(I) Quann is designated the mainworld. It orbits Dusk at a mean distance of 0.18 AU (26.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 41 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Dusk. The axial tilt is 5 degrees. Quann has a diameter of 6,218 km, a density of 6.32 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.56 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Dusk cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.19 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 13% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 22% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: 13°C. The atmosphere is slow and weak weather systems driven by the star and the seas crawl across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 121 million km², Land surface area: 94 million km², Water surface area: 27 million km².

  • Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.

Native Lifeforms

Quann, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (II-I) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Quann has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Quann possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Quann is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
